ETH Pearl approved by SIWF

Modules 1 und 2 of the CAS ETH in Modern Concepts in Clinical Research have been approved by the SIWF.

The SIWF (Schweizerisches Institut für ärztliche Weiter- und Fortbildung/Swiss Institute for Continuing Education and Advanced Training for Doctors) has granted accreditation to Modules 1 and 2 of the CAS MCCR as a separate, contiguous training course for medical doctors. Swiss doctors who complete these two modules will receive 25 credits toward their non-specific continuing education requirements.

The modules are titled “From clinical problem to research question” and “Modern study concepts”. The course will guide participants through designing a clinical study. It will address topics such as critical appraisal, object design, research ethics, quantification of medical need, reduction of unnecessary complexity, and identification of clinical outcome measures. Participants will learn about new types of studies, modern observational research, bias and confounding in real-world data, and the very important topic of patient involvement and patient preference studies as part of human-centred healthcare. Lecturers will include specialists from ETH Zurich, from other academic institutions and from the healthcare industry.

The recognition of this first “ETH Pearl” in continuing medical education highlights the role of ETH in this area. Interested persons will find a variety of continuing education courses under the heading “ETH Pearls” in the future.

Classes of the newly accredited course will be held in English and will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 20.09.2022 to 27.10.2022. The course will include 43 contact hours (online, hybrid, workshop) and will make use of blended learning. For preparation and follow-up, we recommend spending the same amount of time again.
